A True Treasure!

This book, the first in a trilogy, is a great collection of stories, thoughts, penses and ideas. It is a book in the great Jewish wisdom tradition. Jacob is a baker, and each day on his way to the bakery after his prayers he thinks and reflects on God and life. While the ovens are warming up, he jots down his thoughts. One day by accident, one of his scraps of thoughts gets baked into a loaf of bread. The lady who finds it is overwhelmed by its insight and wisdom. She asked the owner of the bakery if Jacob will share more of his ideas by baking one in each of some rolls for a dinner party for her. Reluctantly, Jacob agrees and his peaceful life is shattered.

Soon Jacob has no time for himself. When he goes home people are awaiting him, in the morning they are on the path to work, and every day they are in the bakery, asking him questions, seeking advice and wisdom. They soon desire to make Jacob their Tzadik, their wise man. These stories will warm your heart, and open your eyes to the divine in yourself and in others. It will teach you to live with love and grace and mercy towards others.

The Zen of a Baker

Sorry, you won't be able to learn baking from this book, instead, you may find it's something more like Zen.
This little poetic story lead us to a place where we can have perfect peace of mind. The reason why Human Being are Human Being is we can better utilize our thinking power.
Jacob is a humble yet great influencer.
Each of the little stories inside the book sounds or looks very simple, but there are always great thoughts behind.
A must have for the ones who embrace life and humanity.

In the beginning, students stay close to home, mapping their known world. Gradually, they move on to their neighborhood, developing a sense of place, scope, and perspective. Eventually, once students are older, they explore the nation, the world, even the solar system, creating raised relief maps and contour maps to develop visual literacy and spatial reasoning skills. Vivid illustrations of the students' work are provided throughout to let you observe each stage of development.

This is a gem of a book.

This is a wonderful, well-written book that will be of interest to a wide variety of people--most of whom will unfortunately probably not encounter it--such as parents and homeschoolers and child development professionals and environmental educators, as well as its (presumed by me) targeted audience of classroom teachers. It is the kind of work that uses one subject to explain much about the world, the way we think and use information. It is also a how-to manual on mapmaking with children. I came away from the book with a very clear understanding of several map projects I could do with my children. Because the book first lays the theoretical groundwork for children's understanding of maps, the actual map projects seem intuitive--experiential education at its finest. The author's passion for his subject, and his scholarship come through. There is much information and guidance on what sorts of maps are appropriate for children of different ages to be encouraged to create--from treasure hunts to classroom maps to sophisticated area maps. I am buying copies for my children's teachers!

Mapmaking with Children Exactly What I Was Looking For

As a water educator for a local watershed organization, getting the idea of a watershed across to elementary school students can be challenging. This book focuses on kids developmental capacities and how they relate to a place at different ages. Not only perfect for classroom teachers, this book should be on the shelves of every environmental educator.

Creative Ideas for Critical Thinking

Sobel does a masterful job at explaining how basic mapmaking is to all of us, including children. He then follows with several age-specific ideas about engaging children in the process of making maps. Ultimately, mapmaking leads to the making of meaning about our place and the world around us. I've done several of these activities with groups of children and my own, and they are always winners.

Great story, make sure you have the CORRECT version

Having read the correct, EDITED version, I have amended this review and have raised my rating to 5 stars. If you still have the horribly edited version, contact the author on Facebook and she will send you the correct version.

Here is my official review:
I love this author and her books. Love her characters and how strong they are. She's an eagerly anticipated author and an autobuy for me. This is a great continuation to the series and as always, leaves me eagerly anticipating the next book. I really hope she gives Genesis and Curtis a book to delve into their evolving relationship. I also hope she goes back and gives Ro and Johnson a book to delve deeper into that one :) The new ending is AWESOME to say the least and definitely glad I got to see that little bit extra added.

Over all, loved catching up with the characters and can't wait for the next one. 5/5 Blue Duckies

Atrocious editing!

I normally love this author's books but this one has so many editing.problems it is hard to concentrate on the story. The grammatical errors are so numerous it is distracting. One would think that someone would have caught these errors before publishing.
Aside from the atrocious editing the story itself was good. I really enjoy this author's characters and feel that she does a good job building each one.

Not the right Version! BUT OMG ITS FANTASTIC despite the editing issues!

Despite the challenge of having Amazon load the wrong version of her novel (which had a few typos and formatting issues) A.E. Via has done it again.

I Face booked her to let her know how much I enjoyed Don't Judge and imagine my surprise when she told me the book that was supposed to be uploaded had a different ending. She sent me the correct version. AND OMG! THE ENDING IS AMAZING!

If you have received the version with editing issues, contact AE via Facebook or her website, (GOOGLE her she'll pop right up) she'll send you the right book until this issue is resolved.

To the Review: I love this series and have developed a relationship with the characters. The interaction of the main characters with the people we've already met and loved in this series is flawless and dynamic. Austin Michaels is hot. Smoldering, sexy hot...but Judge? Hotter than the sin-stoked fires of hell. There isn't enough ice tea in Georgia to put out the heat these two make. The story line is refreshing and one I hadn't seen before. The sex scenes were used to forward the story and very well written.
And twists and turns abound! Just when I thought my heart was torn out of my chest AE slams the reader with an epic struggle that completely submerses you in the pain and utter devastation the main characters are going through.
The story takes you through the gambit of highs and lows, humor and tears. Well worth your valuable time and hard earned money,.

A powerful and potentially life-transforming book!

Know the enemy, know yourself, wrote Sun Tzu in his classic The Art of War, and your victory will be certain. For anyone who is stuck at a level below their God-given potential, who can't seem to get on track to do the things they need to do in order to achieve their most authentic goals, knowing the enemy and knowing yourself are one and the same.

Steve Pressfield's magnificent little book The War of Art is about being more creative - but more important, it's also about fulfilling your potential as a human being. To do this, he says, you must overcome Resistance (the "R" is capitalized be Pressfield to represent the fact that it is a very real entity - as real to your authentic Self as Charles Manson or Genghis Khan were to their victims).

The whole aim of Resistance, says Pressfield (who is the bestselling author of The Legend of Bagger Vance and Gates of Fire), is to prevent you from doing the work you are called to do. Resistance wants you to take it easy, to be ordinary and mediocre, to take the low road. Resistance is the reason so many people place a basket over the brilliant candle that shines within them. The fight against Resistance is, Pressfield says, a war to the death.

Pressfield disputes the standard motivational cliché that you can have, do, or be anything if you follow the right formula and just work hard enough. Rather, he says: "We are not born with unlimited choices... Our job in this lifetime is not to shape ourselves into some ideal that we imagine we ought to be, but to find out who we already are and become it."

There are two occasions when Resistance will be the most relentless, and they are related. The first is when something really matters to you. "Rule of thumb: The more important a call or action is to our soul's evolution, the more Resistance we will feel toward pursuing it." If your lifelong goal is to be a writer, a rejection letter from a publisher will hurt a whole lot more than if you submitted your manuscript on a dare.

The second occasion that Resistance is most dangerous is related to what Pressfield calls "the mother of all fears," namely the fear that you will actually succeed. Resistance builds as you get closer to the finish line. "At this point, Resistance knows we're about to beat it. It hits the panic button. It marshals one last assault and slams us with everything it's got." There is a real paradox here: the closer you get to reaching that proverbial tipping point, where things are really starting to click, the more likely you are to engage in the self-sabotaging behavior that is the calling card of Resistance.

Pressfield offers a prescription for defeating Resistance. You must, he says, become "a pro." But he does not mean that in the sense of earning a living at the work, in the sense of being a member of a certain profession, or in the sense of being looked up to by your peers. Rather, he simply means showing up every day with your lunch pail and getting to work. Much of the book has to do with how you make this transformation so that you can do the work that you are called to do.

I have made a small poster with this quote from Steve's book and placed it prominently above my computer: "There never was a moment, and never will be, when we are without the power to alter our destiny. This second, we can turn the tables on Resistance. This second, we can sit down and do our work." My own next book has been on the back-burner for far too long, victim to Resistance. But now I have a weapon: Every time Resistance stands between me and doing my work, I pull Steve's book from out of my bookshelf and beat Resistance over the head. Then in that very second, I sit down and do my work. And it's working.

Inspirational and prescient

I posted a review of this book over a year ago, right after I read it for the first time. I gave it three stars at that time because, other than the first section dealing with resistence in a practical sense, I found the rest of the book to be too esoteric. Since then I have done a tremendous amount of soul-searching regarding my inner drive to become a writer. That search took me back to this book recently, and after reading it for a second time I have to say I don't know what I was thinking when I gave it only three stars. Today I truly believe it is worthy of five stars because it struck deep into my conscience and helped me understand my situation and the situation of others like me. Anyone who is trying to tap into the inspiration they sense burning somewhere inside them that tells them to go out and write - or to create any other kind of art - will benefit tremendously if they open their minds and prepare themselves for rigorous introspection. This is not a simple self-help or how-to book. It is a truly profound examination of the human mind and the quest for fulfillment that we all feel.

A Work of Compulsion

One thing is certain: Steven Pressfield was compelled by whatever source provides him inspiration for his craft to write this book. This is not a labor of love; it is a labor of compulsion. The book is also certain to draw extreme reviews: some will love it; others won't. Middle ground is unlikely. The book manifests itself: I don't think Steven Pressfield cares if he sells one copy, nor does he care whether we like it or not. He only knows that this was a book he had to write. I'm glad he did.
The War of Art is a real-world extension of Bagger Vance, the Jonathan Livingston Seagull of the `90's. Pressfield's presentation draws comparison to many statements that have floated around in my head over the years. JLS said "You have the freedom to be yourself, your true self here and now." In the second edition of the Star War series (in the late `70's?) Yoda tells Luke Skywalker, "There is no try." Either do it or don't do it. The War of Art makes a strong case for both of these concepts.
I was a fighter pilot for nearly 10 years, edited and published a newspaper for two, and entered the battlefield of corporate America two decades ago. As I concluded Pressfield's book, I was overwhelmed with the bittersweet feeling that I truly wished I had read this book when I was 20, not 52. Only having read one or two randomly selected pages when I got the book, I emailed by 20-year-old son in New Hampshire and made it "mandatory reading." He called me within 48 hours, and I couldn't fail to see the impression The War of Art had made on him. "Dad," he said, "For the first time in my life, I can see all the time I've wasted ...." The impact was as real as it was profound.
I read once that "the only thing in the middle of the road is yellow stripes and dead armadillos." Pressfield powerfully demands that the reader has to make affirmative choices to accomplish any calling in life; there is no middle of the road. He deftly explains why so few people reach their own God-given and inspired potential and offers his path for reaching that potential.
Even at 52-years-old, I will change my life having read this book. I sense my son will too. There are concepts that I cannot nor would I fully commit to. Nonetheless, Pressfield has professed an approach to life, be it art or otherwise, that will work. Whether you love this book or hate it, I guarantee it will make you think, and it will alter your approach to life, the path you've taken and the pace of your journey.

Great guide to migraines and how to combat them.

This book is loaded with some great information regarding migraines. Many people probably don't even realize they are having one, they may just chalk it up to stress and a headache. This book will help you not only identify the symptoms of a migraine (including at each of the four stages of the migraine: Prodrome, Aura, Headache & Postdrome) but will give you great advice about how to combat them. The author discusses what a migraine is neurologically, the various causes, triggers, symptoms as well as medications and other remedies that can be used to prevent/ease them.

Excellent book- Well written

I thought this book was excellent. It was well written and well organized and I bought it for a friend that had migraine and he read it as well where he is seeing progress.

About the Author
Sharon Linnea is the author of the new mystery THESE VIOLENT DELIGHTS as well as the EDEN THRILLERS. She has also written award-winning biographies of Raul Wallenberg and Hawaii's Princess Kaiulani. Sherer holds a Master of Divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary and a Doctorate of Education from Oklahoma State University. A Presbyterian minister, she currently serves on active duty as a chaplain in the U.S. Army. Another Successful Eden Thriller!

I’m always up for an exciting adventure and the Eden series never fails to delight.
Plagues of Eden is truly entertaining! I was fortunate to have the book during my late summer beach vacation and it proved to be a fantastic seaside read…keeping me on the shore longer than my family desired and spurring me to our favorite sandy spot each day. (I was saddened when I finished the book before the week ended. I wanted more!)
Having read and enjoyed (and shared with friends!) the three previous Eden books, I am happy to report that Plagues of Eden delivers a thrilling, if not electrifying and intoxicating, escapade. From the Eiffel Tower to the vineyards of France, Italy and China, and other provocative global locales, Plagues of Eden’s format makes for a fast paced, page turning, fun and gripping way to travel the globe with one of my favorite heroines, Jaime Richards.
As I explained to a friend, I felt the format of the book read as episodes to a television series that I would have netflixed so I could view it in its entirety.
Though always fun and engaging, the issues employed in Plagues of Eden…from autism to chaos to tech savviness, (-just to name a few so not to spoil a good read!-)…made for a simultaneously thought provoking and entertaining read!

Fast Paced and a Real Joy

Just like no time has passed between books you find yourself right back with characters you may have forgotten that you knew so well. As with all of the books in this series the pace is full speed the whole time with plenty of action, suspence and situations so real that you will feel the discomfort, the stress and the relief along with the characters. Truly enjoyable to read, you will find yourself finishing this book in one or two sittings. I enjoyed Plagues of Eden every bit as much as I did the other three books in the series. If you like a fast moving story, honest characters, varied scene changes and real suspense you should enjoy this book. The authors are very talented story tellers that keep it fun and never boring and it really is impressive how much detail you get while never being bored by them. This book is worth your time.

Eden mystery continues!

I loved the first 3 Eden books! 3.5 stars!!! This was a good continuation of Jaime's story with Yani and Mark. A few too many random characters in the background but ending left open for more stories which I look forward to! Hopefully they will write more books!!
